How do you get what you want?
My mother, who just turned 50, jokes around about my first elementary school play date. I was 5 or 6 and she left my friend Brandon and I alone in the room playing a board game (probably Candy Land). Her and my Grandmother heard a slight commotion and peaked in to witness what I see as large characteristic trait of mine. So what was happening?
Apparently, being the 1st born and being in a competitive family, I started to change the rules because my friend was winning on my home turf! I did it subtly until he began to notice that it was unfair and claimed something along the lines of, “Hey, you’re cheating!” Well, as my mom recalls watching me, I slammed my fists down on the board, knocking the pieces everywhere and shouted…
I WIN! I ALWAYS WIN!
He cried. My mom called his mother and there wasn’t much left to that friendship.
Which brings me to my point of how do you get what you want?
By influencing people while having a high degree of self-awareness, intuition and self-confidence.
I’ve been able to do it in athletics, academics, social scenarios, etc. If you want something, go for it and be aware that most people often strike out.
Seriously, how many times did you declare you wanted something and not get it?
If you didn’t get it was probably your fault. I know we cannot control every variable but, we can increase the percentage up significantly.
Tomorrow we’ll see how…
